Japan Society of Civil Engineers (JSCE)
Toward the 21st century, along with the world-wide eagerness for peaceful economic
prosperity, the role of civil engineers as the kernel contributors to the construction
of industrial and social infrastructures is weighing increasingly, and their territory
of engineering activity is expanding rapidly. The Japan Society of Civil Engineers,
positioned as the core of the field of civil engineering, has been the most prestigious
academic association with long history, consisting of more than 35,000 members at
present from all domains related to civil engineering including scholars, officials
and engineers of private companies.
This society has made great contributions to the amelioration of the quality of civil
life, aiming at the improvement of envirionmental amenity, the guarantee of public safety
and the promotion of culture and welfare through a wide range of activities in cooperation
with relative academic associations. With this scope based on the philosophy that civil
engineering should promote the cultural developmentof citizens and improve the efficiency
of the every process of human society, JSCE has been active multidisciplinary as well as
facilitationg the communication among the members. The activitiesof JSCE spread out not
only domestically but also internationally, communicating with relevant academic associations
and research institutes of various countries in order to promote the exchange of technical
information and academic products.
The membership of JSCE is open not only to expert civil engineering but but also to all
people of the general public who are interested in civil engineering.
With a view to produce better social capital, JSCE welcomes the participation of every
citizens.
