インドネシア・ニアス州知事からお礼の手紙が届く

A huge earthquake and subsequent tsunami attacked the island of Nias, off the western coast of Sumatra, Indonesia on March 28, 2005. Soon after that, JSCE dispatched a technical assistant team to the island. The team conducted intensive studies and assessments of the disasters, the causes of buildings destructions and made proposals and suggestions on implementing repair and reconstruction of the damaged buildings in the afflicted areas.

Following that team, JSCE has sent some teams to the same areas to continuously provide assistance for their smooth recovery and reconstruction in the forms of technical cooperation, disaster education and local engineers' training.

For the teams' contributions, Mr. Binahati B. Baeha, SH, the Regent of Nias expressed his appreciation in the letter to the President of JSCE dated March 23, 2007. The letter, which is written in Indonesian, can be reviewed as below. Some parts of the letter are introduced in English:

"The arrival of Japan Engineer Team in Nias has identified the cause of land destruction and recommended the Geo-technic investigation shall be conducted in the framework of reconstruction implementation, and training for the staff of Settlement and Area Infrastructure Office of Nias Regency also donation of Swedish Weight Sounding Test Equipment; therefore, the Government of Nias Regency and the people of Nias are expressing our appreciation.

Donation given by JSCE is very useful and we still using it in the framework of Restoration of damaged infrastructures caused by the earthquake natural disaster, we hope that this donation/ support will be continued."
