企画テーマ 企画テーマ(英訳)	交差点・ラウンドアバウトの安全と円滑
企画概要	平面交差部は交通容量上，安全上の要衝であるため，これらに配慮し，適切に運用，管理することが求められる．こうした背景のもと，これまで無信号，信号交差点において，ドライバー，横断者についての挙動解析や容量，安全面に関する数多くの検討がなされてきた．また一方策としてラウンドアバウトの設置をあげ，その導入に向け性能，計画設計などの研究も進められている．こうした状況をふまえ，本企画ではラウンドアバウトを含めた平面交差部の円滑性・安全性について，性能向上につながる構造・運用形態，新たな信号制御の効果，ラウンドアバウトの認知，計画，設計，交通運用，広報などの視点をもとに議論したい．
企画概要(英訳)	Severe crashes categorized as “frontal-side impact” and “right-turner versus opposing through vehicle” are still predominant at signalized and unsignalized intersections in Japan. A safer and more effective control scheme for at-grade junctions should be reconsidered according to local traffic conditions. Because of this situation, various analyses have conducted for the purpose of traffic capacity and safety at signalized and unsignalized intersections. On the other hand, roundabouts have attracted attention in Japan as a measure to achieve the purpose, and the performance and planning/design of roundabouts are also being studied. In this organized session, we would like to discuss both safety and effectiveness aspects of at-grade intersections including roundabouts from the standpoint of structurally-engineered intersections, well thought out operation for improving the performance, the effect of new-type traffic signal control and the possible strategies and practical issues for deployment of roundabouts in Japan.
