Outline of the 35th Conference of Infrastructure Planning

The 35th Conference of Infrastructure Planning
(Spring Meeting 2007)

Organizer: Academic Affairs Sub-Committee for the Conference of Infrastructure Planning

The 35th Conference of Infrastructure Planning (Spring Meeting 2007) will be held. Detailed information on the conference follows.

The Spring Meeting was established in 2002 with the aim of enriching research presentations and of realizing active discussions among participants by minimizing parallel sessions. It also aimed at reducing the load of the Fall Meeting as well as at offering research presentation opportunities that meet the need of professional civil engineer accreditation services. The Spring Meeting 2007 will consist of the three sections; the Planning Session, Young Researchers Session, and the Special Session.

1. Outline of the Spring Meeting 2007

1) Date (tentative): June 9 (Saturday) - June 10 (Sunday), 2007

2) Venue: Hakozaki Campus, Kyushu University

3) Sessions: Planning Session, Young Researchers Session, and Special Session (SS).

4) Important Dates including the Deadlines (tentative)

- Planning Session

-Young Researchers Session

- Special Session (SS)

5) Adjustment of the no. of sessions

Since the establishment of the spring conference, the no. of sessions has been increased, and it has been barely adjusted by extending session hours or increasing session rooms. However, the increasing no. of sessions is making it difficult to fulfill the conference aim, genriching research presentations and realizing active discussions among participants by minimizing parallel sessionsh. To maintain the conference environment that affords its aim toward the future, the conference program needs to be organized as it can meet the conference site capacity by limiting the no. of papers to be presented. Therefore, the coming spring conference will consist of 80 sessions at the maximum restricting per presenter no. of paper to be submitted for the conference to one (papers presented at the Special Session and co-authorsf papers are excluded). For the Planning Session and Young Researchers Session, the organizer might ask some presenters of papers to switch to a poster session, or there might be a case that some papers cannot be accepted. Updated information on this matter will be announced on the Infrastructure Planning Committeefs web site.

2. Recruitment of Planning Session Organizers and Session Topics

Session organizers who will volunteer to organize the Planning Sessions on basis of their proposed topics will be recruited. A wide range of planning session proposals are expected to realize attractive and active discussions.

1) Volunteer session organizer sign up and session topic application

i) Deadline: December 8 (Friday), 2006 (Closed.)

ii) Items required to be included in the application sheet (no designated format)

  1. Proposing session topic (title of the session)
  2. Session organizerfs name and affiliation
  3. Contact address (zip code, post address, tel., fax., and e-mail)
  4. Session proposal including the session topic (within 300 Japanese characters or 150 English words).
  5. Session type: choose the most suitable one from those respectively featuring: 1. Intensive discussions on specific topics; 2. Practical and technical issues; and 3. Flash news or fledging issues. The session classifications are shown in the table below.
  6. Public recruitment of papers is preferred. When the session will consist of only invited papers, specify it.
  7. When the session organizer will invite papers, specify the paper presenters and their affiliations.

As the Conference Secretariat will contact Session Organizers and paper presenters via e-mail in principle, their e-mail addresses must be included in the application form.

iii) E-mail the application form to: keikaku35@jsce.or.jp Tel: 03-3355-3559

Addressee: Academic Affairs Sub-Committee for the Conference of Infrastructure Planning (attn: Hashimoto)

A confirmation e-mail of acceptance will be sent to an applicant by the secretariat by December 13 (Wednesday) 2006. When you do not receive the confirmation e-mail by the date, contact the secretariat at the above address because your application might not be rightly accepted due to any on-line trouble.

In case e-mail correspondence is not available, the application document could be sent by post to the address below (no later than Dec.8, 2006).

2) Responsibilities of a Planning Session Organizer

A Planning Session Organizer is requested to fulfill the following responsibilities.

i) Determination of inviting papers and invitation of the presenters

When a session organizer invites papers for the session, after the session proposal has been accepted, the session organizer will determine inviting papers and invite their presenters to the session asking them to make the entry of the paperfs title and abstract as well as to submit the paper manuscript for the conference in accordance with the paper application guidelines.

ii) Organization of the session program

A session organizer will organize the session program. One session duration is 90 minutes that will allow three to four presentations. The papers on the session entry list will be notified to the session organizer after the paper abstract and title entry deadline, March 16, 2007. The session organizer will determine whether or not the applied papers would be acceptable and will decide the presentation order in the session. Because the conference sets the upper limit of the no. of sessions, when similar topic sessions continue, the Secretariat might ask the session organizer to split the session or to adjust the no. of presentations by moving some papers to the poster session.

iii) Session Chairperson

Every session organizer will chair his/her session.
