n Example of Design Calculations based on JSCE Standard Specifications

for Concrete Structures - Reinforced Concrete Superstructure

of Open-Type Wharf

The Concrete Committee of Japan Society of Civil Engineers published “Example of Design Calculations based on JSCE Standard Specifications for Concrete Structures - Reinforced Concrete Superstructure of Open-Type Wharf” in 2005 and published the English version in September 2007. The publication of the example aimed to provide designers with guidance on the interpretation and use of JSCE Standard Specifications for Concrete Structures, and to present working examples; to unify the relationships among Structural Verification Part, Seismic Performance Verification Part, Materials and Construction Part, and Maintenance Part of the JSCE Standard Specifications for Concrete Structure and to connect the individual design standard with the JSCE Standard Specifications; and to provide background information and references for the above-mentioned verification example.

n Subcommittee on Construction Placement related Performance Evaluation

The Concrete Committee of Japan Society of Civil Engineers published “Recommendation for Mix Design of Fresh Concrete and Construction Placement related Performance Evaluation” in March 2007. Intensive research on fresh concrete workability and risk assessment of initial defects were conducted by the JSCE subcommittee which then prepared a paper entitled “Construction Placement related Performance Evaluation” and was set up in September 2005 with the financial support from concrete production and construction industries. This activity was accomplished on the background that concrete users and practitioners are willing to have manuals to realize the performances as indicated in Standard Specification for Concrete Structures - 2002 “Materials and Construction”, chapter 5 Performance of Concrete for Construction. The mission of the sub-committee was extended to propose the drafts serving future revision of the JSCE standard specification as well.
