The Concrete Committee of the JSCE has published Standard Specifications for Design and Construction of Concrete Structures, and various JSCE Recommendations.

* Niigata-ken Chuetsu Earthquake (Oct. 2004)

 

The Concrete Committee of the JSCE formed an investigation team that investigated the damage to concrete structures. The team mainly investigated RC elevated bridges and RC bridge piers for the Shinkansen and several RC highway bridge piers and RC buildings. This report presents some of the results of the investigation.

 

 

* Activities of Subcommittees

 

The Concrete Committee of the JSCE has several subcommittees divided into three working groups. The first working group deals with activities related to social development, public welfare, and the advancement of civil engineering, particularly concrete engineering. The second working group is mainly engaged in activities related to education and international affairs. The third working group is made up of voluntary committees. This group conducts research into topical problems in order to broaden the vision of the JSCE and the technical skills of its membership.

 

 

* West Off Fukuoka Prefecture Earthquake

 

At 10:53 on March 20, 2005, Fukuoka Prefecture was hit by an earthquake of intensity level 6 (magnitude 7.0). The epicenter of the earthquake was to the west off Fukuoka Prefecture.

Most concrete structures survived without severe damage. When new information about the damage to concrete structures becomes available, it will be published in the next issue.
